As part of our wider commitment to improving our member experience, CIOB members of all grades will now automatically receive a Digital Membership Card within the CIOB Connect app.

Since most people are already carrying their smartphones everywhere, our members will now have a digital version of their Membership Card stored on their smartphones wherever they are. Your Card will only be visible to you, protected by your app login details. Digital Cards also help to support our sustainability goals.

The CIOB Connect app is free to download, and gives members access to a wide range of membership benefits, including:

  • Access to our Member Directory
  • Share, network and comment with other members in the Forum
  • Join private groups and chat amongst other professionals
  • Read the latest industry news from 5 different online magazines
  • Message other members directly
  • Listen to the latest 21CC Podcast
  • Book courses and access CPD content via CIOB Academy
  • Browse and book onto events (online and in person)
  • Contact CIOB directly
  • Access CIOB Assist
  • View and share your CIOB Membership Card.

If you haven’t yet downloaded CIOB Connect, it’s free to download and you can find it on the App Store and Google Play.

Digital Membership Card: FAQs

Q: How do I find my Digital Membership Card?

A: Once you’re logged in to the CIOB Connect app, your Digital Membership Card will appear underneath your name and above the news feed. If you select the + sign it will expand to show your unique membership number.

Q: When can you use your CIOB Digital Membership Card?

A: Your unique membership number, which is on your digital membership card, can be used to:

  • Gain free access to our high-value CPD events
  • Pay your membership subscriptions
  • Access assessment/certification applications
  • Show as proof of your membership grade.
Q: How do I add my membership card to my digital wallet?

A: Although the card within the app cannot currently be automatically added directly to your Google or Apple Wallet, there is a way to manually add your Digital Membership Card to your digital wallets (or any other card/pass) by uploading a screenshot or photo.

To add your card to your Google Wallet from an image:

  • Take a screenshot of your Digital Membership Card on your phone
  • Open the Google Wallet app
  • Tap Add to Wallet > Everything else
  • Accept the consent term
  • Take a clean picture or screenshot of the card you wish to add
  • Preview the information (you can trim it here if needed)
  • Tap Add to save the pass.

To add your card to your Apple Wallet:

It is recommended to use a dedicated app such as Card Manager or Wallet Creator to customise your cards and passes for your iOS digital wallet. Take a screenshot of the card and follow the uploading instructions within the wallet app.

Q: How does this relate to Digital Badges?

A: Digital Membership Cards are unique to you, showing your grade and membership number, which can be used to prove your CIOB membership in-person. This is different to Digital Badges, which you can share on social media, email and websites that verify a skill, certification or achievement you’ve earned. CIOB will launch Digital Badges later in the year, with more information following soon.

As your Digital Membership Card in the app contains your personal data, please do not share copies of this on social media.

Q: Why can’t I see my Digital Membership Card when I log in?

A: Please note that you will need to make sure that you have the latest version of the Connect app downloaded. You may be prompted to update to the latest (free) version, and log in again. Otherwise, go to Google Play (Android phones) or the App Store (iPhones) and you can manually update the app from there.

Q: What if I have been issued with a digital card previously?

A: There won’t be any changes immediately, and you can continue to use your existing Digital Card. Our Membership team will be contacting you individually so that you can receive the updated version of your Digital Membership Card shortly.

Each card is unique and includes your personal member number. If you are a CIOB member, and your Digital Membership Card is still failing to show on the app after you’ve updated your app version, you can post a query in the Help Centre on the app Forum, and a member of the Connect team will get back to you. Or you can contact our member services team on: [email protected] (tel +44 (0)1344 630700).
