"Its an issue that is really exercising BSRIA", the chief executive said.
"Facilities managers and FM suppliers should be thinking now about how they are going to manage this risk."
Big companies in most sectors will have power shortage solutions and risk management strategies in place, he told FM World. "It's the medium-to smaller-size businesses that won't have protection or a plan B or C."
Facilities managers will increasingly have to prove the value of a building to their organisation rather than the cost to buy or rent it, he said. This notion of the building as a value-added asset instead of a bricks and mortar asset will become increasingly important."
