CIOB reassures members after UK votes to leave EU

Following the result of the EU referendum, Chris Blythe CIOB Chief Executive has moved to reassure CIOB members that the global standing of their qualifications remains unchanged.  

“Even though we are UK-based, membership of the CIOB continues to be a guarantee of high professional standards and provides access to international markets. In this regard, the global status of our members’ qualifications remains unaffected.

“During the EU debate, CIOB did not take a position on the question of whether the UK should or should not remain a member of the EU. After all, the CIOB is professional body, incorporated by Royal Charter, with a public service mandate and global membership, which aims to advance the science and practice of construction management.

“As we have with other key issues in the past, the CIOB will be discussing the implications of EU withdrawal on the construction industry and built environment with policy makers. This includes understanding the views of our members as well as taking into account the public interest as part of our Royal Charter objectives. We will also continue to commit to working with other professional bodies to ensure a consistent cross-profession voice is presented.

“As it currently stands, and in common with other organisations, the CIOB is assessing the impacts of withdrawal from the EU and will provide further advice to members in due course. From Government, it is essential that stability, clear leadership and a recognised plan of action are put in place as soon as possible in order to dispel any uncertainty and provide the industry with the confidence to continue with ‘business-as-usual’.”
