CIOB reacts to the appointment of new construction minister
Nadhim Zahawi MP is the new construction minister in his appointment as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Minister for Business and Industry.
In a raft of announcements regarding areas of ministerial responsibility, the government has confirmed that Nadhim Zahawi is the new construction minister. The role is officially Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Minister for Business and Industry, within the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy.
Mr Zahawi, MP for Stratford-on-Avon since 2010, will cover a number of areas, including:
· Industrial Strategy delivery
· Sector Deals - sectoral lead on advanced manufacturing, materials (including steel) and infrastructure and construction
· supply chains
· local growth
· better regulation and regulatory reform
Caroline Gumble, CEO of the CIOB said, “Construction is a key part of the economy, a driver of jobs and growth. The quality of our buildings has a lasting impact on the wellbeing of individuals and communities across all regions and sectors. We look forward to working with the Minister to help ensure that the industry continues to thrive."
