The CIOB launches ‘Masterminds of Construction’, an in-depth news and current affairs-style programme that brings greater understanding about the value of construction and explores the career opportunities available to young people in the industry.

Introduced by national newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky, ‘Masterminds of Construction’, focuses on people as well as processes and explores the work of the individuals and teams driving change and striving for excellence within construction management. Watch the full programme here.

Launching alongside CIOB’s new Academy, the programme brings to life the exciting and diverse range of careers available in construction management. With a growing population, it’s vital to look at solutions for the future and the new talent that will craft the urban landscapes of tomorrow.

‘Masterminds of Construction’ explores the rewarding careers the profession has to offer and shows that it’s not just hard hats and blueprints. There’s a vast array of opportunities available to women and men who want to make a difference to the world around them.

The programme features companies embracing cutting edge technologies and students taking advantage of on-the-job education. It examines why the industry wants greater diversity and looks at transforming views on how the industry is perceived by those who work in it, as well as by the general public.

Simon Shelley, Head of Industry News, ITN Productions said: “We’re delighted to have partnered with the Chartered Institute of Building to create ‘Masterminds of Construction’, designed to explore the enthralling and demanding role of construction managers. The focus is on the future of construction technology and innovation in the way projects are delivered. We also look at the challenges this extraordinary sector faces, including the need for new talent and why skills shortage remains an issue.

We hope that the leaders in construction, and beyond, will engage with the programme and use it as a means to share ideas and stimulate discussion.”

Chris Blythe, Chief Executive at the Chartered Institute of Building said: “Our partnership with ITN Productions is about creating inspiring films with the industry.  Masterminds of Construction reveals why a career in construction is a career for people who want to tackle the big issues. It’s quite easy to underappreciate the industry’s full impact, but once your eyes are opened to it you can see its influence across society. We are delighted to help tell these exciting stories and thank those who took part to make it happen.”
