CIOB announce date for their next Conservation Conference

The CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building) has announced the date for their next Conservation, Adaptation and Maintenance of the Built Environment conference. The event, on 30 April, will feature an impressive line-up of speakers, covering every aspect of heritage and conservation in the built environment and is being delivered in partnership with English Heritage.

The venue for the event is also in keeping with the theme – Church House, Westminster, which is set within Dean’s Yard, close to Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

Speakers include high profile figures from the heritage and built environment sectors:

·       Chair for the morning will be Ros Kerslake OBE, Chief Executive of the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the body responsible for distributing National Lottery grants to fund projects that sustain and transform the UK's heritage

·       The afternoon session will be chaired by Charles Egbu FCIOB, Senior Vice President of the CIOB and Dean of School of the Built Environment and Architecture at London South Bank University

·       Kate Mavor, Chief Executive of English Heritage, will be talking about approaches for sustainable conservation

·       Gary Cass of Aedis will cover “Building Regulations - Debunking the Truths and Myths”

·       Also included on the agenda are Rory Cullen, Chair of the CIOB's Conservation Special Interest Group and Director of Cullen Conservation, and Professor John Edwards, Director at Edwards Hart Consultants and Professor on Practice at the University of Wales Trinity St David

This is the fifth time the CIOB has run this event, which recognises the importance of historic buildings and conservation work in the construction industry. The CIOB believes that most construction professionals will work on historic buildings at some point in their career - in the UK alone, 50% of all construction works are on traditional buildings. While there are standards, training schemes and qualifications focussed on modern methods of construction, this conference promotes the skills, knowledge and innovation needed to conserve, repair and refurbish historic and traditional buildings.
