The Chartered Institute of Building announces 2014’s top innovators and researchers working on built environment ideas.
To highlight the importance of innovation and research the CIOB’s annual International Innovation & Research Awards was founded more than 10 years ago. Its aim is to raise performance levels, enhance best practice and ultimately improve the quality of the built environment. Importantly it also encourages the brightest industry newcomers; the recent graduates and post graduates who are already making a valuable contribution and could lead on innovation in the future.
The 2014 competition registered 178 entries from 17 different countries with cash prizes on offer of up to £2,000. The judging panel consists of 17 judges, including CIOB I&R Panel members and invited guests. Six Premier Award winners were selected to recognise their outstanding achievements in academic research and industry innovation.
Professor Stuart Green MCIOB, Chair of the Judging Panel, said: “The entries to the CIOB International Innovation & Research (I&R) Awards once again surpassed all expectations. The judging panel was unanimous in their assessment that the overall quality standard was the best ever. Innovation in the built environment is undoubtedly alive and well. Several of the entries were nothing short of inspirational.
“It has been especially gratifying to see excellence spread so evenly across the different award categories. Industry participation in the CIOB I&R awards gets stronger every year, and the quality of the entries from the university sector bodes well for the next generation of innovators.”
