Chartered Membership (MCIOB)
There are different paths to becoming a Chartered Member, depending on your experience and qualifications level
Qualified & Experienced Practitioner - Industry Pathway
annual subscription
This pathway was created to streamline the process for members who are ready to achieve Chartered Membership. For this pathway, members need a degree-level qualification and 3 years (for a construction-related degree) or 5 years (for a non-construction-related degree) of construction management experience.
You can then progress directly to your Chartered membership assessment/exam, called Professional Review.

Become Chartered in as little as 3 months
Skills Development Pathway
annual subscription
Our Skills Development pathway is suitable for graduates or students who do not yet possess the required experience within the industry (3-5 years) to become Chartered but want to progress to Chartered Membership via a structured and assessed route. Via this pathway, candidates enrol in the Professional Development Programme (PDP). If you believe this pathway and the PDP is suitable for you, we recommend that you initially discuss this with your line manager – they can then direct you to the person who oversees the programme internally.

This pathway is suitable for candidates with a bachelor’s degree who lack the required industry experience (3 years if you have a construction-related degree and 5 years if your degree is in another subject) to become Chartered. While in this pathway you do not need to start working on your Chartership application. Instead, we will support you as you gain the knowledge and experiences to put you ahead of the game when you are ready to become Chartered.
