Summary
HMP Highland, replacing 1902's HMP Inverness, will double capacity to 200, with modern builds, family support, and integration hubs.HMP Highland will be the first new prison in the Highlands for over a century, replacing HMP Inverness (Porterfield) which opened in 1902. The 17-acre new prison site will be able to accommodate 200 male offenders, which aims to double the Highlands current capacity. Overnight provisions will also be available for women and young offenders attending local courts. There will also be a community integration hub and family centre to provide support to families and job opportunities for inmates. The new prison is constructed using modern methods of construction, with the houseblock being constructed using pre-cast concrete panels, manufactured off site.
