Example of work 1
Project: Univ. of Strathclyde Planned & Reactive Maintenance Client: University of Strathclyde Scope: Joinery, roofing, flooring; projects from £1,000 to £1M+ Length: 4 years + 2 optional 1-year extensions Notable projects include: Repairs to Grade A listed Ross Priory (1810), including sandstone restoration, 101 window replacements, and a 19th-century wishing well renovation. Metalwork/blacksmith repairs to railings, edge protection, and fire escapes for anti-slip/trip program. Painting and decorating as part of planned maintenance. Roof replacement for Lord Todd building. Refurbishment of 160 bedrooms, 20 kitchens, and 60 bathrooms across 4 student accommodation blocks.
Example of work 2
Project: Refurbishment and ventilation upgrades in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital's Sick Children's Cancer Ward Client: NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Value: £8,700,000 Programme: 74 weeks Refurbishments in live NHS environments is one of MPMH’s specialities, and we were appointed to bring Queen Elizabeth University Hospital's Sick Children's Cancer Ward up to current SHTMs (Scottish Health Technical Memorandums - technical standards that NHS facilities must adhere to). This is Scotland’s busiest hospital and we carried out the works adjacent to live wards. This highly-complex project was delivered on time and budget despite extensive challenges, including: • Lockdowns, as the works began just before the COVID-19 pandemic reached the UK. The project was deemed essential work for the NHS and we continued throughout lockdowns with stringent social distancing measures and special RAMS in place. • Maintaining negative pressure at all times to prevent dust and debris contaminating adjacent wards with severely ill patients. • Class IV HAI-SCRIBE (NHS infection control) procedures, signifying a project of very high risk to patient safety. We completed the works with no incidents and no threats to patient safety using measures such as daily inspection of hoarding to repair any hairline cracking; the use of tac mats at all exits to remove dust from operatives’ boots, disinfecting hoarding daily, and cleaning with neutral detergents. • Coordination and sequencing of new secure risers and other services through all floors of the hospital to the roof. • Major post-contract changes to the mechanical services installations, as the building did not reflect the current “as builts.” We issued accurate as-builts to the client after our works.
Example of work 3
Project: Grade A Office Reinstatement Client: LSPIM Value: £400,000 Programme: 12 weeks We carried out landlord works to reinstate and refurbish the Lightyear Building - a modern, Grade A serviced office building in Glasgow - for new tenants. Our scope included: • breakthrough to create one large suite; • downtakings of the previous tenant’s FFE including a comms room; • replacement of the metal suspended ceiling and addition of plasterboard trim; • new floor coverings; • new doors; • M&E replacements and upgrades including small power, heating, water, and ventilation; • external groundworks and alterations to facilitate external pipe chases and other works to the external ventilation; • fire protection works including dampers, collars, and intumescent mastic; • decoration. We carried out initial site investigations to help us design-out risk and continually re-assessed the works to look for value engineering opportunities. We managed to save the client around £50,000 by identifying sections of existing condensate pipework and air conditioning units that could be reused rather than procuring new. This aligns with our circular economy approach to sustainability, which maximises the value of materials by keeping them in use to the end of their lifecycle.
