A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross Scheme Site Visit

Summary

The Project

The A30 provides a vital link between Penzance and the M5 motorway connecting people, businesses and communities. Together with the A38, it is one of the two key roads connecting Cornwall with Devon and counties to the east. The section between Chiverton and Carland Cross has a dual function, providing both a strategic east-west link and also accommodating local traffic movements, particularly the north-south flow of traffic between communities and workplaces. The section between Chiverton and Carland Cross is the last remaining length of single carriageway between Camborne and the M5 motorway and regularly experiences congestion and delays.

The project will create a new dual carriageway to relieve congestion and improve access between communities, workplaces and local services whilst retaining a route for local access. The objectives of the scheme are to improve safety, reduce congestion, improve efficiency, unlock economic growth, connect communities, protect the environment and minimise disruption.

This site visit will provide an overview of the project now it is near completion. The team will give an insight into how they approach carbon reduction associated with the A30 project activities (and the activities of the supply chain) which is fundamental in ensuring that the A30 project helps shape UK infrastructure, mitigating and adapting to meet climate change.

The team will introduce some of the project innovations, including a proactive behavioural review for the implementation of plant people interface technology, the role out of a smart permit to dig system, the fully UKAS accredited onsite laboratory and plans to adopt a robot dog. Finally, they will share how they have managed the archaeological challenges of the project and show some of the artefacts, such as the flint scatters from the Mesolithic/Neolithic transition period.

Important Information

Meet at 10:15 for a 10.30 start at the site offices, located Mitchell, Newquay, TR8 5AY.

Full PPE (hard hat with chin straps, lace-up safety boots with steel toe and midsole protection, yellow hi-visibility long trousers, long-sleeved hi-visibility top, light eye protection and cut 5 gloves) will be required. Attendees must bring their own personal protective equipment and will not be admitted to the site if they do not bring the correct PPE.

A light lunch will be provided. Please indicate any dietary requirements when booking.
