Proud to be celebrating its 46th year in business, Interclass are a family owned, Midlands based, UK construction business, originally established as a groundworks contactor in 1976 by Chris Watkins. Today, with our roots firmly in the Midlands marketplace, we are now the partner of choice for both public and private sector organisations with a £30 million turnover.

As a principal contractor, Interclass is responsible for managing and delivering construction projects up to £10 million in value across multiple sectors. We also provide civil engineering and surfacing solutions through our in-house subcontractors.

Interclass works together in close-knit teams and is passionate about transforming the built environment to create lasting legacies whilst building long-lasting relationships. The growth of the company has come as a result of working in close partnerships with our customers, striving to understand their needs and providing cost-effective tailored solutions.

In 2020, we secured a place on Lot 1 of the Constructing West Midlands Framework following a robust tender and due diligence process.

In 2021, we won ‘SME of the Year’ at the West Midlands Constructing Excellence awards and Building Contractor of the Year at the Construction Awards of Excellence 2022.www.interclass.co.ukhttps://interclass.co.uk/why-choose-us/

Example of work 1
Coundon Court School Interclass was contracted by Coventry City Council to build a new two-storey purpose-built languages block at the school on Northbrook Road, Coventry to provide for expanding student numbers. The new building will comprise 16 classrooms, SEN provision, store rooms and office space for teaching staff. In addition to the construction of the teaching block, the main hall will also see a two-storey extension to increase capacity during exams to 350 students. Built with sustainability in mind, the new buildings incorporate low energy high efficiency LED fittings throughout with renewable energy generated from Solar PV panels. The site team have worked closely with local community groups such as Canley Food Hub and The Hope Centre, helping families in need by donating time and money to local causes.
Example of work 2
Wednesbury Health Centre & Housing Interclass are in the principal contractor appointed to deliver a £5 million+ housing project and health centre at King Street, Wednesbury for Sandwell Council. The development, situated on a one-acre brownfield site next to Wednesbury Leisure Centre, will create five much-needed new council properties – four two-bedroom homes and one three-bedroomed home – plus a modern health centre for the Spires Health Centre and the district nurse service. The health centre at King Street will replace the outdated Mesty Croft Clinic in Alma Street and the temporary building at Victoria Street currently used by Spires Health Centre. The central location of the new King Street scheme will give Wednesbury residents easier access to health care and create further regeneration opportunities in the area. The project was procured through the Constructing West Midlands framework and it is expected that the development will be completed during the first half of 2023.
Example of work 3
Redevelopment of Aston Fire Station. Interclass was appointed by West Midlands Fire and Rescue Authority to carry out the redevelopment of Aston Fire Station, with the building originally built in 1924. The project consisted of a new build extension – constructed alongside the existing Grade II listed building– which now provides modern office accommodation and welfare space for the fire service. The existing building was fully refurbished with the operational accommodation and appliance bays being retained at ground floor level with adjacent accommodation being reconfigured to include a new community library and heritage museum display space on the upper floors. Both buildings are connected using a double-height glazed atrium link offering views of the fire service in operation, and have been designed to meet the future operational requirements of a modern-day fire service. Interclass was able to provide additional social value on the project and in collaboration with Aston Fire Station, rallied together to collect food and supplies to donate to a local food bank service, even setting up a donation point on site.
