NEW FUEL FARM TO SERVE HAWARDEN AIRPORT OBJECTIVE Hollingsworth Ellery was selected to provide a new Fuel farm as the previous facility was relocated due to the new Beluga Line Station for AUK As the existing facility had been decommissioned the Airport was running it’s entire operation on temporary fueling tanks. This came with a massive risk to the business and the desire to run from a permanent facility also put huge pressures on the construction and it’s program. Hollingsworth Ellery were selected due to the robust tender package which contain a solid construction sequence program, a sound proposal from the Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation install perspective and a proven track record for delivering projects that exceed clients expectations with the Airbus Facilities team. The contract included the full M & E install including all new instrumentation METHOD The first major hurdle was the removal of a huge contaminated stockpile from the footprint of the new farm. This was test, zoned and segregated to minimize costs of disposal to the client. The site was adjacent to Airfield side and next to the control tower. Security measures were agreed with the client to control access to site and avoid any Airside works. The project included substantial civil engineering works delivered directly by Hollingsworth Brothers A large percentage of storage tanks, pumps, steelwork walkways were supplemented with new. Once installed there followed a period of testing and replacing old circuits until the Fuel farm was again operational. HE then embarked on the commissioning stage with North Air operations which included cleaning of tanks and running the entire system. RESULTS The project was handed over one week early to the delight of the client. No accidents or incidents were encountered during the construction The management of the project was highly praised by Air BP and Airbus. The final account was agreed at practical completion SUMMARY Darren Bailey Air BP PM Commented he would like to continue to build on the professional relationship with Hollingsworth Ellery based on the quality of workmanship, delivery against programme and their approach to construction management.
Example of work 2
NEW WAREHOUSE & SALES OUTLET OBJECTIVE J R Webster, a well established specialist supplier to industry for fixings, tools and PPE, required a new warehouse and sales outlet in Liverpool. They had acquired a site in a prominent location close to Liverpool city centre on which they obtained planning approval for their new unit. METHOD We tendered for the design and build of the new Warehouse and Sales Outlet through a two stage process. We were successful in winning our way to the second stage where we worked closely with Websters to develop bespoke design solutions around their vision for the new business. The new unit is Webster’s flagship outlet with many features and concepts that are being rolled out across their business. Websters had no professional representation such as a PQS or Project Manager. Consequently we provided professional advice to them on matters such as the CDM Regulations and even assembled the JCT Contract documents for signature. We developed a high level of trust with a relationship that grew stronger as the job progressed. We worked with the novated Architect A2 and the structural engineer to develop practical and buildable details that met Websters requirements and kept within the constraints of the Planning Permission. The warehouse was very close to a viaduct carrying the busy Merseyrail Northern Line. Through liaison with Network Rail we established that the foundation solution shown in the tender documents was unacceptable. The installation of driven piles would have caused excessive vibration and potentially damaged the Victorian viaduct. We carried out further site investigation work and developed an alternative foundation solution consisting of a heavily reinforced concrete raft. As the project progressed Websters were better able to visualize the size and scale of the building and we were able to work with them to arrive at the optimum solutions for fitting out the office and amenity areas as well as the arrangement of the proposed sales area. RESULTS The project was completed on time and to a very high standard. Websters were able to fit out the sales area and open for trade on their target date. SUMMARY Websters have commented that they are absolutely delighted with the building and with the influx of new business as a result of its prominent location. They have also let us know that the experience of building the new unit with Hollingsworth Ellery was a good one which they would be happy to repeat.

SURFACING TO SITE ROADS | GM MOTORS | ELLESMERE PORT OBJECTIVE Hollingsworth Ellery was selected to carryout critical upgrades to GM Motors (Vauxhall) site infrastructure and external access roads and car parking upgrades. Works were procured as efficiently and promptly as possible to suit the clients requirements. In some instances this required an open book approach or negotiated rates. METHOD The timing of the works were very dependant upon the Vauxhall shift pattern. Works were sequenced and coordinated around heavy traffic flow times and with a rolling schedule of traffic control measures. Cost effect solutions involved overlaying the existing surfacing with minimal planning, this also minimized the required programme. RESULTS Each package of work was completed within the allocated programme and without incident or detrimental effect on Vauxhall’s operations. The end result is an improved infrastructure system which is both easier to manage and reduces maintenance. SUMMARY This works continues as budget funding becomes available as and when required. Work is within a busy live environment and without interruption to the plant operations and people. Hollingsworth Ellery pride themselves upon being able to react quickly and professionally in order to meet client requirements.
